#22: My stay in Sydney

After our arrival and the usual “deep clean”, the following days were scheduled for maintenance and repair jobs that could not be done at sea. Since we now have covered nearly half of the whole race, all twelve yachts were lifted out of the water at a dock close by, in order to inspect the hull and apply now antifouling. A corporate sail day with clients of our boat sponsor ‘PSP Logistics’ was another great experience, as we sailed through the harbour of Sydney.

Sydney was a very special stopover for me, as my parents and brother came to visit me here. My aim was to finish all of my duties before their arrival, which I managed successfully, as the intense family time after not seeing each other for a couple of month was very important to me. We definitely had a lot to talk about and I could finally share my thoughts and experiences in person. Thanks to a good friend of my parents, we experienced Sydney in a special way – ranging from the famous attractions to small hidden secrets of the city. We all very much enjoyed this, as it is of course much more interesting to get to know a new city with a ‘local’ resident. Thank you!

The goodbye with my parents and brother won’t be for long, because we will see each other again in Hobart, Tasmania, after participating in the famous Rolex Sydney Hobart Yacht Race, which will approximately take four days. This will definitely be a great feeling, next to the race experience also the arrival at the Royal Yacht Club of Tasmania, where I will be greeted by my parents and brother. I am again very much looking forward to this!
